Symptoms of Testicular Cancer

By Aldrich alfred at 2010-12-22 03:06:01
There are several symptoms of testicular cancer that you may have if you've got it, including loss of sexual appetite, blood in semen and a significant increase or decrease in the size of one of the testis. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's absolutely imperative that you see your doctor as soon as possible. Testicular cancer is one of the least deadly, killing roughly 10 percent of those diagnosed. If caught in stage 1, only 5 percent of people diagnosed will die.

Testicular cancer is most commonly found in Caucasian men aged 15 to 40, although it has been found in infants and the elderly as well. While talking to your doctor about symptoms of testicular cancer may be an awkward conversation to have, it can also be a lifesaving one. Your health is too precious to put at risk because you're afraid of getting embarrassed or you don't like going to the doctor. Physicians get asked weird questions all of the time and have seen just about everything. Talk to your doctor, you're worth it.

First of all, you should get familiar with your own testicles. Many guys do not even know the anatomy of their testicles and have never explored them before. I suggest you find a good self-examination video on Youtube. But basically, each testis is an smooth ovoid shape. Attached to the back of the testis is the epididymis. This is a loose, tubular structure adhered to the back and ending at the top and bottom of the testis. The testis also has a spermatic cord attached to the top of it.

A lump or a small lump is the classic type of symptom there is for the testicular cancer. Tumors develop from within the testicles itself so it is advised that you push and feel the testis but do it without causing any pain when you look for one. Palpate the testis and if ever you'll feel anything that is hard similar to a pea or peanut then it could be a tumor.

It is important to note that not all of these symptoms are necessarily accompanied by pain. This includes instances where a man has a lump or swelling in the testes. If someone notices that they are experiencing these symptoms, they should not ignore a potentially serious situation simply because they do not feel any pain. Of course, if someone is experiencing pain without all of the other symptoms, they should still contact a doctor and get checked out.

Advanced cases of testicular cancer are going to see more cancerous growth in the testicles and possible traces of blood in the semen. Some patients are also going to see some sort of liquid in the scrotal area, especially in the form of hydroceles. The doctor is going to diagnose the hydrocele for potential cancerous growth. And after that, he is going to look at the extent to which the cancer has spread.

Symptoms of testicular cancer to be aware of include constant, dull pain in the lower abdomen or groin areas. Even if it comes and goes, you'd be better off safe than sorry going to get it checked out by your primary care physician. Also, if you notice that one testicle unexpectedly grows or shrinks you should be concerned. If sex is painful, there is blood in your semen or if you don't have much interest in sexual activity anymore, definitely talk to your doctor about it.

It is going to take the shape of mild pain in your stomach, and groin region. You might also find a change in the shape of the testicles. One testicle might grow abnormally and out of proportion, because there is a cancerous growth. There is also going to be a simultaneous and proportional shrinking of the other testicle. That is because all the blood going into the groin area is going to be soaked up by the cancerous tissue in the testicle.
